Karen Buckrop was named Indiana University’s Executive Director of Planning in February 2026. She provides enterprise-wide leadership for strategic, master, and space planning across all campuses, aligning the university’s physical environment with its academic, research, and healthcare missions. She partners with chancellors, provosts, and deans to advance institutional priorities through planning standards, space utilization strategies, campus master plans, and the feasibility and programming phases of capital projects. She also leads the development of comprehensive space data, analytics, and utilization and cost reporting to support informed, long-term decision-making.
Buckrop serves as the senior staff representative to the Bloomington and Indianapolis Space Committees, guiding units through the development and approval of space solutions. Since joining the Office of the Vice President for Capital Planning & Facilities in 2014, she has held key leadership roles in university-wide space planning and utilization and has collaborated closely with executive leadership on major capital initiatives. She previously served as Director for Facility Planning and Operations for the IU School of Medicine, managing construction and facility operations across statewide campuses. She brings more than 20 years of higher education leadership experience, along with six years in the life sciences research industry.
